My Journey through Athletics

Athletics, specifically rowing, skiing, and fitness, have shaped almost everything about who I am and how I show up in my work. I tore the ligaments in my ankle as a sophomore in high school and couldn’t row. I didn’t want to step away from the sport or my team, so I became a Coxswain. The experience taught me not only perseverance through difficult situations, but also how to be adaptable and find a new role for myself when plans change. In my role as a coxswain, I am essentially presenting for two hours every day through giving directions, reading the boat, and maintaining the athletes’ focus. This has built my confidence in speaking, leading, and making decisions under pressure. Skiing and maintaining a consistent gym and fitness routine since I was young have also been an important part of my journey. The two of these have taught me to be disciplined, to have mental toughness, and have allowed me to push myself past my limits.

These experiences translate directly to how I will approach my future career, whether that will be in sales, human resources, or somewhere else in the business world. In terms of sales, the resilience I have built through training, competing, and overcoming injury helps me handle rejection, stay motivated, and keep striving to reach my next goal. In human resources terms, being  part of tight-knit teams has shown me how culture, communication, and support impact performance as well as well-being. Coxing has taught me how to listen, motivate different people, and give feedback all in real time. These are essential skills in client-facing and people-focused roles. Athletics isn’t just something I do, or a small part of my life; it’s the foundation for how I lead, collaborate, and show up ready to work hard every day.

A Little Glimpse into my Athletics
Rowing

Coxswain

I started rowing when I was in seventh grade, and became a coxswain my sophomore year of high school. I was a varsity athlete all four years of high school, and am now in my third year of collegiate athletics.

Skiing

I started skiing with my family when I was 2 years old! Ever since, I look forward to winter every year so I can get back on the mountain. Skiing has given me so many great memories with family and friends, and it is a great way to get outside and stay active in the cold.
